ABA Pressured to Move Immigration Conference out of Arizona
The American Bar Association is facing mounting pressure to move a
conference scheduled for next week in Phoenix. The event's
co-sponsor has backed out and two New York public interest law
groups have called for a boycott to protest Arizona's controversial
new immigration law, which makes it illegal not to carry
immigration documents and gives police authority to detain anyone
on the basis of "reasonable suspicion" that a person is in the U.S.
illegally. The ABA event focuses on legal services for low-income
individuals.
