Dr. Malcolm Oliver Perry II, who attended to President John F.
Kennedy at Parkland Memorial Hospital after he was shot in Dallas
on Nov. 22, 1963, has died. He was 80. The University of Texas
Southwestern Medical Center says Perry died Saturday after a battle

Southwestern and a vascular surgeon on the Parkland staff when he
became the first staff surgeon to treat Kennedy.

Perry: Don't speculate about oil spill
Texas Gov. Rick Perry said Tuesday it's not wise to speculate about
what caused an explosion and massive oil spill in the Gulf of
Mexico, and he defended his use of the term "act of God" to
describe the disaster.Perry said Tuesday the phrase
— which he used in a speech in Washington,
D.C., on Monday when discussing the spill — is
a legal definition and that his point is "nobody knows what
happened" at the oil rig off the Louisiana coast. The undersea well
has been spewing 200,000 gallons of oil a day.The giant oil slick
is threatening the Gulf Coast from southeastern Louisiana to
Florida. Rig operator BP PLC has been trying unsuccessfully to cap
the leak, which began April 20."If you will go look up the
definition of 'Act of God,' we've used it in legal terms for a long
time in this st...

Judge Approves Nearly $500,000 for Counsel Who Won Title VII Suit
While it's not unusual for prevailing plaintiffs attorneys to
collect reasonable fees in a Title VII case, it is unusual for a
judge to approve nearly all the fees requested, employment lawyers
say. But that's what happened when U.S. District Judge Jane Boyle
of Dallas approved nearly all of the half-million dollars in
attorney fees requested by four lawyers who represented a plaintiff
in a successful employment discrimination and retaliation suit
against University of Texas Southwestern Medical Center.
Revisiting what Prop. 8 proponents want to exclude from evidence in the Perry case, and why
I have yet to catch up with today's news about oral argument in
Gill v. OPM, a case I consider no less groundbreaking than Perry
(and more likely to succeed.) I ask your forbearance as I revisit a
question about Perry I raised last week. not just because my
initial comments fell far short of the mark, but because my
corrections, informed by the latest filings,* will help me focus on
what's at stake in the latest discovery dispute. In a subsequent
post, I will hazard my guess that the dispute still has significant
potential to blow up and cause further delay.*Thanks to Kathleen
Perrin for her timely update on these oppositions to Prop. 8
proponents' motions to strike content from the trial
